Barrie Wagner is a therapist with over twenty years of experience. She has worked in many different therapy settings that help children, adolescents, couples, families and adults. Her experience included work with people who were court ordered to receive services in the family court system.  Barrie Wagner has worked with very diverse populations in several states. Her work in AZ has included community mental health, private practice, schools, expert witness in the personal injury field, evaluations and corporate employee assistance. Barrie has worked as a group leader for an impaired professionals group, she has been a successful and highly regarded family therapist, and she has led groups for adolescents and children in inpatient settings. Her history includes professional positions in South Dakota, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. She has been helping children who have been abused and mistreated for many years. Child abuse treatment, child and adolescent trauma and interventions with families who are abusive have been a major part of her work. She has worked with the courts to provide quality services to parents who are in high level conflicts and decreased the negative effects of those disputes on the children caught in the middle of the parental and extended family fights. Barrie Wagner has worked with some of the most difficult family situations and with those who are the most abusive. She has high quality training in the area of child abuse and trauma and utilizes cognitive behavioral and family systems therapy as well as techniques that are child friendly. She is well versed in sandtray therapy, play therapy, and creative arts therapies for children and adolescents. She has combined therapy with recreational therapy techniques that include group games and creative techniques. Barrie Wagner is a well respected member of the community with memberships in professional psychology and child psychology fields. Her training includes doctoral level clincial psychology training in child, family and assessment areas. She completed her internship in Utah and her doctoral training was obtained from the University of Denver. She was able to coordinate a training for the trainers event in Arizona through the Kempe Center in Denver, CO. The training was available to counselors in Arizona that wanted to train others in the prevention of child sexual abuse.  Barrie was a teacher in North Dakota and South Dakota. She was the first art teacher and developed the curriculum for a school system's eighteen elementary schools. She taught in an alternative high school and a junior high school in the past. Her focus was on the visual arts and psychology. Barrie Wagner is dedicated to helping children and adolescents who are suffering from high level family disputes. She has worked with children in residential treatment, group homes, inpatient psychiatric settings, outpatient settings, special education schools, foster homes, adoptive homes, and shelters. She has taken on the most difficult cases and worked to protect the children and their families from abuse.  Coordination with health care professionals is highly important to Barrie Wagner and she provides an important link to helping individuals meet their potential by being available to consult with professionals about their mutual patients/clients.  Barrie Wagner has been active in the professional community in Arizona while a member of the Arizona Psychological Association (AZPA). She has received specific training in the adolescent substance abuse field and in treating symptoms of trauma that children and adolescent display.  Couples treatment is provided using Emotionally Focused techniques. Barrie Wagner has been trained in an externship using this type of therapy.
